The Art of Fashion Forward Folding

Fashion Forward Folding
For SUEDE, inspiration comes from an eclectic, cosmopolitan array of sources. Each season we are excited by everything from fast sports cars to glittering fashion capitals to art history.

This season, SUEDE looked to the East for inspiration for our Japonica collection. Origami (from ori meaning ‘folding’, and kami meaning ‘paper’) is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. The goal of this art is to create a given result using geometric folds and crease patterns preferably without the use of gluing or cutting.
The Maki, Sumi, and Origamine, along with the rest of the Japonica group all sport perfect pleating that evokes both a couture sensibility and an architectural direction.

Origami on the Runway
This juxtaposition of delicacy and strength has inspired many designers including Christian Dior, and Jeremy Laing.
